. . . AND IT GOES LIKE THIS
In October 2020, Mike began planning to propose to Becky during a vacation to New Zealand. When COVID caused the country’s borders to remain closed, we pivoted to Costa Rica, and Mike started from scratch. We flew down to Costa Rica on December 16th, 2021 and stayed at a 10-person Airbnb (which somehow didn’t tip off Becky!). The following morning we drove to Nauyaca Waterfalls, where seven of our friends (hiding in bushes) and a professional wedding photographer supposedly scouting location for a wedding were waiting for us. Thinking she was being helpful, Becky offered us up as a stand-in couple for his shoot, and when he set up the shot, Mike got down on one knee. After Becky said yes cried and laughed for a while, Mike told her to shout at the top of her lungs, “Come on in, guys!” (Survivor fans will understand.) And out from the bushes came our friends for the second surprise of the morning. We celebrated our engagement with the 10-day vacation that followed!
